Export and uninstall

Updated 1 September 2026

You should be able to leave. An app that watches your files and can’t be cleanly removed has no business asking for that access in the first place.

Export everything

Settings → General → Export Entire Library…

You get a folder containing every screenshot as an ordinary image file, plus a sidecar JSON per capture holding the recognized text and metadata — source application, capture date, dimensions, tags, content type and extracted entities.

Nothing is held back and nothing is in a format only this app can read.

Export a selection

Select captures in the Library and choose Export Selection…. Same format, just fewer of them.

Uninstall

  1. Quit Screenshot Inbox.
  2. Move the app from /Applications to the Trash.

That stops everything. The app has no background daemon, no login item left behind, and no kernel extension.

To remove your data as well — export it first if you want to keep it:

~/Library/Application Support/Screenshot Inbox/

That folder holds your screenshots and the database. Deleting it deletes your library.

Preferences and the licence key live in the normal macOS locations:

Your original screenshots

If you set the app to move originals off the Desktop, those files are in the library folder — that is where they went. Export before deleting anything, or copy the images out by hand.

If you chose Leave a permanent copy in place, your originals are still where macOS put them and nothing needs recovering.

Reinstalling later

Your licence key still works — activation is perpetual and there’s no device count to release. If the library folder is still there, the app picks it up where it left off.

Before you go

If you’re uninstalling because something didn’t work, I’d genuinely like to know which thing. It’s the most useful message I get, and there’s no telemetry telling me otherwise.
