OCR you copy from, versus an index you search
Both apps read text out of a screenshot. The difference is what happens next. CleanShot's text recognition is an extraction tool: you open a capture, pull the text out, paste it. It acts on the screenshot in front of you.
Screenshot Inbox builds a persistent, searchable index of every screenshot you have ever taken. You don't need to know which capture you want — you type a fragment you half-remember and it finds the image. That's a different product shape, not a better version of the same feature.
The second difference is where the pixels go. CleanShot's sharing is built on their cloud, which is exactly what makes it convenient and exactly what rules it out for anyone screenshotting a client's dashboard under NDA.

You spend your day producing screenshots for other people — documentation, bug reports, design feedback, tutorials. Annotation, scrolling capture and a fast share link are the job, and CleanShot X is very good at it.
You take screenshots to remember things, and the pain is finding them again weeks later. Or you work under NDA and a cloud upload is not an option you're allowed to take.

Plenty of people run both, and that's a perfectly sensible setup: CleanShot for capturing and sharing deliberately, Screenshot Inbox quietly indexing everything so it's findable later. They barely overlap.
